This is the a clone of the first car built by the Ramchargers team. (They also built this clone.)
The Ramchargers were a bunch of young Chrysler engineers who were racers or wanted to be racers. If you are a car guy, I don’t care what make you like, you need to read “We were the Ramchargers”. Anyone who ever raced owes these guys a debt of gratitude.
They were not factory backed, they just worked for Chrysler. The young group of Chrysler engineers purchased this car and built a Hemi for it. This car had the first tunnel ram intake - if you look at the tubes between the carbs and the intake they are rubber hoses so they could put in longer or shorter hoses. It had no back fenders because they “altered” the wheel base for better traction, they sat the engine high for weight distribution to the back wheels. They made a 4 link style rear suspension and the list goes on. At the first N.H.R.A. race they entered everyone laughed at it until it set the N.H.R.A. mile per hour record for it’s class on the first pass. —— One of the guys found the original intake and they decide to make a clone, someone had the original square tach etc. I heard this thing run with those headers, it may have been the loudest gas powered engine I have ever heard.
In 1960 they went to the president of the Plymouth division and he wanted no part of it, but Dodge called them and gave them a car. Later Plymouth sponsored some other Chrysler engineers and they called themselves The Golden Commandos.
