Chrysler seeks SRT exclusivity in SRT “Grass Roots” Marketing Tour
In its quest to entice consumers to its SRT brand, Chrysler plans to get “back to basics” by lauching a “grass roots” marketing campaign that brings the new SRT line directly to the consumer.
At an automotive event last Friday, Ralph Gilles, Chief for the SRT brand, said that the SRT brand will be launching a 40 event tour across the United States for the 2012 Dodge Charger SRT8, Dodge Challenger SRT8, Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 and Chrysler 300 SRT8.
Gilles is not concerned with huge sales numbers.  “I want these cars to be collectible; I want them to be special. Gilles says, “It is more important for me to create exclusivity than it is to chase volume.”
Regarding the SRT tour, Gilles asserts,   “we know exactly where our enthusiasts live, and sometimes you can actually create events to draw them out,” Gilles said, “and that’s what the tour is all about.”

The Bakers Dozen

Leaving out specialty vehicles like the 68 Hemi Darts and Barracudas, Thunderbolts, ZL1 Camaros, etc, what would you name as the top muscle to roll out of Detroit?  I posed this to my father and this is what we came up with.

In no particular order:

  • 1955 Chrysler C300 Hemi
  • 1962 Dodge Dart 413 Max Wedge
  • 1962 Pontiac 421 HD
  • 1963 Dodge 330 426 Max Wedge

In 1963 Dodge was serious about making their models lighter to take advantage of their new 426 “Ramcharger” Max Wedge. Fifteen Chrysler engineers and technicians worked after hours to ready their new 426 power house for the 1963 Winternationals. Beginning with a thin gauge steel body, they replaced the lower front body, splash pan, hood, hood scoops and front fenders with aluminum components. Radio, heater, sound deadener and undercoating had been deleted, trimming further heft, and the battery relocated to the trunk. The result was the lightest Dodge 330 available, at 3,328 pounds, with a two percent transfer of weight to the rear of the car.

    • 1966 Dodge Coronet Hemi
    • 1968 Plymouth Roadrunner Hemi
    • 1969 Ford Boss 429 Mustang
    • 1969 Chevelle 427
    • 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner 440 6-pack
    • 1970 Buick GSX 455
    • 1970 Chevy Chevelle LS6
    • 1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda
    • 1970 Pontiac TA Ram Air III
